SOME THINGS ARE WORTH THE WAIT
Those people who know me will know that I like music. I started writing this blog on the train on my way to London. I was heading to the capital to spend one the hottest Saturdays of the year watching the Rolling Stones play in Hyde Park. Needed the sun block that day!
It may be 44 years since the Stones last played Hyde Park, but there is always lots of choice of who to see at different venues across London. Here in Leeds, we have some great venues, but for larger events, the arenas of Sheffield and Manchester have traditionally been the destination.
All that changes tomorrow night. After years of rumours, discussions, debates and finally actual construction, the long awaited and much needed First Direct Arena opening is upon us. With Bruce Springsteen playing on opening night and a string of acts to follow suited to all tastes, the arena looks set to have a successful future ahead of it.
A couple of weeks ago we had a tour of the Arena (thanks to our friends at MOJO Leeds) and were impressed at the differences with other arenas. Every seat has a great view of the stage, numerous food and beverage outlets, easy access from the city centre and so on. Have a look at our visit to see the only time I’ll be on the stage of the arena!
The knock on effect for our city promises to be huge. Bars, restaurants, hotels, shops, parking and so on have got to be winners All these businesses will benefit for years to come from both the local visitors and the out of town visitors who will be coming and staying in our city for events.
Good luck for the launch of the arena and all the Leeds businesses that will prosper from the opportunities it generates. It took a long time, but the arena is now here.
